Leading UK low cost carrier easyJet (U2/EZY) has celebrated the opening its new base at Newcastle Airport (NCL/EGNT) by teaming up with high street bakers, Greggs – famous for their sausage rolls.
The collaboration sees a selection of unusual and playful flavours take to the skies, including varieties influenced by France, Spain and Turkey. Among the creations are a tarte tatin-inspired dip, a sangria-flavoured sauce and a kebab-style option, all designed to reflect easyJet’s expanding route network from the North East.
To celebrate the launch, easyJet cabin crew have been showcasing the new offerings at iconic regional landmarks such as the Tyne Bridge, St James’ Park and the Angel of the North. Passengers travelling on international flights from Newcastle on the launch day were also treated to complimentary sausage rolls and dipping sauces onboard.

The “Destination Dips” range includes flavours such as Silky Affogato (Italy), Tangy Tarte Tatin (France), Spicy Harissa Ketchup (Tunisia), Snappy Sangria (Spain) and Saucy Kebab (Turkey), each designed to evoke the culinary character of easyJet’s destinations.
Throughout the launch week, the airline is also bringing the experience into Newcastle city centre, with pop-up appearances from cabin crew offering the sauces to the public.
The new Newcastle base will be home to three aircraft and is expected to support around 1,200 jobs, including 140 direct roles for pilots and cabin crew. easyJet is operating 86 weekly flights to 22 leisure destinations across Europe and North Africa—an 85% increase compared to last summer. New routes launched from the base include Antalya, Corfu, Dalaman, Enfidha, Faro, Lisbon, Malta, Nice, Prague, Reus, Rhodes, Rome, Sharm El Sheikh and Tenerife.

The opening marks easyJet’s 11th UK base, following recent expansions at London Southend and Birmingham, as the airline continues to grow its regional presence and improve connectivity.
Holidaymakers will benefit from more than 800,000 seats available this summer, with package holidays including flights, accommodation, 23kg luggage and transfers on beach breaks.
Garry Wilson, CEO of easyJet holidays, said the launch reflects strong demand in the region and described the partnership with Greggs as a fitting way to celebrate the airline’s arrival.
Greggs Customer Director Hannah Squirrell added that the collaboration highlights the company’s North East roots and provides a fun way to mark the milestone.
Nick Jones, CEO of Newcastle Airport, described the new base as a “major milestone” for both the airport and the wider region, citing increased passenger choice, job creation and economic benefits. He added that the investment comes as the airport prepares for a record year, with six million passengers expected.
easyJet currently serves 22 UK airports, offering more than 650 routes to nearly 140 destinations across Europe and beyond.
