British Airways has unveiled the new cabin interiors that will feature on its refurbished Airbus A380 fleet, marking a significant step in the airline’s plans to modernise its long-haul passenger experience.

The multi-million-pound investment will see the aircraft receive new seats across all four cabins, upgraded in-flight entertainment screens and redesigned interiors from nose to tail. The first completed A380 is expected to enter service in the coming months, bringing the airline’s latest cabin designs to its largest passenger aircraft.

The refurbishment is one of the most extensive cabin transformation programmes undertaken by an airline, with more than 35,000 individual parts to be installed on each aircraft. Alongside the new seating, the work includes improvements to galleys, stairways and other interior spaces, creating a more consistent design throughout the aircraft.

Sean Doyle, British Airways’ Chairman and Chief Executive, said the programme represented a major milestone for the airline and its A380 fleet.

“This is a major milestone for British Airways and the future of our A380 fleet, marking one of the most significant transformations we’ve ever undertaken on any aircraft.

“We’ve completely reimagined the customer experience, introducing new and updated seats in every cabin, all carefully considered to deliver greater comfort and an elevated customer experience.

“At the heart of the transformation is our brand-new First suite, but this investment goes far beyond a single cabin. From redesigned interiors and upgraded dining to new amenities and service delivery, every detail has been thoughtfully designed with our customers front and centre, helping them to have a more seamless and memorable experience when they fly with us.”

A new experience across all four cabins

Passengers travelling in World Traveller, British Airways’ economy cabin, will benefit from larger entertainment screens, wider seats and improved bedding. New pillows feature a contemporary herringbone pattern with additional filling, while upgraded blankets are designed to provide greater warmth and comfort.

World Traveller Plus, the airline’s premium economy cabin, will also receive larger entertainment screens, privacy wings on the seats and new bedding and pillows. Passengers will additionally receive a reusable amenity kit designed as a tote bag for use during their onward travels, containing travel essentials and skincare products.

The changes are intended to improve comfort throughout long-haul journeys, with particular attention paid to the areas passengers use most, including their seats, entertainment systems and sleeping arrangements.

Club World, British Airways’ business class, will feature an updated version of the airline’s Club Suite. The refreshed design introduces a contemporary palette inspired by the carrier’s signature blue, red and cream colours, alongside additional storage and improvements to the suite’s functionality.

The A380 will feature 106 Club Suite seats across the entire upper deck, creating what British Airways describes as the world’s largest business class cabin.

The upper deck will be arranged into four distinct cabin zones, with dedicated areas including Club Kitchens and redesigned galley spaces. The layout is intended to give passengers more freedom to move around during the flight while retaining a more private and comfortable environment.

Business class passengers will also receive new amenity kits in four designs created by British artists through art platform Rise Art. The kits will feature products from British wellness brand anatomē.

First takes centre stage

The new First suite is a defining element of the refurbishment, building on the design first unveiled by British Airways in 2024.

Designed to create the atmosphere of a modern luxury hotel, the suite combines greater privacy with a more refined interior, incorporating British design elements and products developed with manufacturers from across Great Britain and Ireland.

Passengers travelling together in the centre seats will be able to lower the divider between them to create a shared space, while stowable tables will allow them to dine together.

British Airways has also introduced a new amenity kit developed in partnership with British heritage brand Swaine. Inspired by the luggage carried by early air travellers, the unisex kit is available in royal blue and cream and contains skincare products from Wildsmith.

The collection includes a face mist, hand and body lotion, ceramide multi-balm, lip balm, face cream and an overnight mask, with the products selected to help maintain skin hydration and comfort during long-haul flights.

The sleeping experience has also been redesigned. First passengers will have a new woven day blanket with a herringbone pattern, a navy-blue cushion and navy sleepwear featuring the airline’s bespoke tartan. Slippers will also be provided.

When passengers are ready to sleep, cabin crew will prepare the suite with a mattress, lightweight cotton duvet and newly designed pillow, with the aim of providing a more comfortable environment for rest at altitude.

Restaurant-style dining at 35,000ft

The cabin refurbishment forms part of a broader improvement to British Airways’ First dining service, which is being introduced across the airline’s long-haul fleet.

The updated menu places greater emphasis on fresh flavours and British produce, with a new “From the Grill” concept allowing passengers to choose from premium options including British roast rack of lamb and grilled salmon, accompanied by a selection of sides and sauces.

A range of Signature Mains will provide further choice, while a minibar integrated into the new First seat will offer refreshments, including premium snacks and still and sparkling water.

The dining experience will be supported by contemporary stoneware and fine bone china, alongside a dedicated drinks menu featuring premium Champagne, a selection of gin-based drinks and non-alcoholic alternatives. A triple-vintage cider from Showerings will also be available.

British Airways has worked with specialist designers and drinks experts on individual elements of the service, including cutlery designed by Studio William and wine glasses developed in collaboration with Richard Brendon and wine expert Jancis Robinson.

The airline is also introducing specially designed serving pieces featuring its Speedmarque branding, alongside new presentation elements for afternoon tea and other meals.

The new First dining experience became available across the airline’s long-haul fleet from 1st of October, while the new Swaine amenity kit was scheduled to become available from 6th of October.

Investment extends beyond the aircraft

To support the changes in First, British Airways is rolling out an updated training programme for its First Service Specialist cabin crew. The programme is designed to help staff provide a more personalised service, responding to individual passenger preferences while maintaining the airline’s approach to hospitality.

The A380 refurbishment is part of a wider investment programme spanning aircraft interiors, airport facilities, technology and operational performance.

British Airways has also announced a major transformation of its Heathrow lounges, including a new facility at Terminal 5’s C Gates, a redevelopment of its Arrivals lounge and a new First check-in experience at Terminal 3 in collaboration with American Airlines.

Together, the projects represent a substantial effort to improve the passenger experience both on the ground and in the air.

For the A380, the new cabins will give British Airways an opportunity to refresh one of the most recognisable aircraft types in its long-haul fleet. The aircraft’s size provides room for a substantial premium cabin offering, while the updated interiors are intended to bring its onboard product more closely in line with the airline’s latest designs.

The first refurbished aircraft is expected to enter service in the coming months, with the programme set to deliver a significantly updated experience for passengers travelling in every cabin.
