UK pushes back COVID test requirement

The UK has pushed back its requirement for all passengers arrving into England to have proof of a negative COVID test 72-hours prior to arrival.

The rules were originally due to come into force today but have now been pushed back to Monday 18th January.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced the move this morning saying that international passengers need more time to prepare for the new rules.

What are the new rules?

From Monday, all passengers arriving into the UK (England & Scotland) will need to provide a negative COVID test on arrival at the airport or port, this includes UK citizens returning.

There are no international flights arriving into Wales and as the only ferries operate from Ireland there is no need for a similar rule in the principality.

Even with a negative COVID test arriving passengers must still isolate for 10 days unless they get a further test after arrival from a recognised tester to cut the time down to 5 days.
