Two die in Yorkshire helicopter crash

Two people have been confirmed to have died in a helicopter crash near Burton in Lonsdale in Yorkshire.

The aircraft is understood to have crashed just before lunchtime with local residents describing a thick plume of smoke from the crash site.

No one apart from the two confirmed fatalities are thought to have been on board the aircraft but North Yorkshire Police could not confirm any more details.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has confirmed it has sent investigators to the scene saying “An investigation has been launched and a team of inspectors are travelling to the accident site to begin making inquiries.”

Police said that the families of the victims are being supported by specialist officers.
