Jersey’s aviation heritage is being celebrated with a special commemorative stamp collection marking the 75th anniversary of the Jersey Aero Club, recognising the organisation’s contribution to flying, pilot training and the island’s aviation community since 1951.
Released by Jersey Post, the Jersey Aero Club 75th Anniversary stamp issue highlights the people, aircraft and memorable moments that have helped shape the club over three-quarters of a century.
Since its official formation in 1951, the club has played an important role in developing Jersey’s aviation community, introducing generations of islanders to flying and helping foster a lasting interest in aviation. Its contribution extends beyond flight training, with the organisation also providing a place for learning, social interaction and the preservation of the island’s aviation heritage.
The commemorative collection reflects this broad history, drawing on stories ranging from memorable landings and popular air rallies to the instructors, members and aircraft that have become part of the club’s identity.
For Jersey, where aviation provides an important connection with the wider world, the Aero Club represents a longstanding part of the island’s relationship with flight. Over the decades, it has continued to evolve alongside developments in aviation while retaining its founding ambition of making flying accessible to islanders.
Jersey Aero Club Chairman Nigel Hall has highlighted the enduring appeal of aviation through a quotation that captures the fascination shared by pilots and enthusiasts alike: “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward.”
The 75th anniversary also provides an opportunity to recognise the contribution of the many pilots, instructors, members and supporters who have sustained the organisation throughout its history.
Jersey Aero Club Manager Jonathan Vibert said the milestone was an important moment for the organisation and an opportunity to celebrate its place in the island’s history.
“For 75 years, the Jersey Aero Club has been a proud part of the island’s aviation heritage, and we are thrilled to have this milestone recognised with a dedicated stamp collection. It is a fitting tribute to the many pilots, instructors, members, and supporters who have helped shape the Club since 1951.
“We would like to thank Jersey Post for creating such a wonderful and lasting celebration of our history, which we hope will be enjoyed by aviation enthusiasts and collectors alike.”
The commemorative issue brings together aviation history and philately, offering collectors and enthusiasts a lasting reminder of the club’s contribution to Jersey. It also celebrates an organisation whose story reflects the people and passion behind general aviation, as well as the role flying clubs continue to play in encouraging new generations to take to the skies.
