Five people have been confirmed dead as a result of an Amazon Prime Air freighter, operated by 21 Air, overshot the runway while landing at Miami International Airport earlier this evening.
The Mayor of Miami Daniella Levine Cava confirmed the deaths in a press conference saying “We can confirm that we have at least five deceased individuals,” adding “Multiple individuals were transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries,”
The Boeing 77-300 Freighter overshoot the runway at Miami earlier today bursting into flames on the left side with images showing significant damage to the aircraft.
It is unclear whether the deceased were onboard the aircraft, or on the ground at this time but the aircraft is understood to have struck multiple vehicles outside of the perimeter of the airport.
The flight had originated from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Unverified video shows an Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767 touching down significantly along the runway with the port landing gear off the runway which may have resulted in spoilers not being automatically deployed.
