Finnair has announced a significant fleet renewal programme with an order for up to 46 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, in a deal comprising 18 firm orders, 16 options, and 12 purchase rights.
The new aircraft will replace the airline’s older regional jets and form a key part of Finnair’s strategy for sustainable and profitable growth across its European network.
Selected for its efficiency, reliability, and passenger comfort, the E195-E2 is regarded as the quietest single-aisle aircraft currently in operation. It also delivers up to 35% greater fuel efficiency compared to the previous-generation Embraer E190 aircraft currently operated for the airline.
Configured with 134 seats, the E195-E2 features a cabin design with no middle seats, offering improved passenger comfort alongside reduced noise levels. The aircraft will also support Finnair’s environmental objectives by lowering CO₂ emissions and contributing towards its climate targets.
Finnair CEO Turkka Kuusisto described the order as a landmark investment for the airline.
“This is one of the largest investments in Finnair’s 102-year-old history, and a vital step in our strategy. The Embraer E2 will enable us to strengthen our European network and tap into growth opportunities, while enhancing our competitiveness through reliability, versatility and a high degree of customer comfort. Importantly, this investment also reduces our CO₂ footprint, advancing our climate targets,” he said.
Embraer also welcomed the agreement, highlighting the aircraft’s economic and environmental benefits.
Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said: “We are honoured to support Finnair’s next chapter. The E195-E2’s unique combination of efficiency, comfort, and reliability delivers meaningful value – lower fuel burn, reduced CO₂ emissions, and strong operating economics. We look forward to helping Finnair modernise its short-haul fleet, better match capacity to demand, and unlock future growth.”
Deliveries of the new aircraft are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027, with the order set to be included in Embraer’s backlog for the first quarter of 2026.
