Embraer has celebrated a major milestone with the delivery of its 2,000th E-Jet, more than two decades after the first aircraft in the family entered commercial service.

The milestone aircraft, an E195-E2, has been delivered to Brazilian airline Azul Linhas Aéreas, marking another significant chapter in the development of one of the world’s most successful commercial jet families.

Since the E-Jets entered service in 2004, the family has become a major presence in the global commercial aviation market, with aircraft now operated by more than 90 airlines across more than 60 countries.

The fleet has accumulated approximately 48 million flight hours and carried more than 2.85 billion passengers worldwide, demonstrating the scale of the programme and its role in connecting smaller cities and developing new airline markets.

“The delivery of the 2,000th E-Jet is an extraordinary milestone for Embraer and for the global aviation transport industry,” said Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.

“As one of the world’s three most successful commercial jet programs, the E-Jets family has played a vital role in connecting communities, opening new markets, and creating sustainable growth opportunities for airlines. We are proud to celebrate this milestone alongside Azul, one of our valued long-standing partners.”

For Azul, the delivery has particular significance. The airline has operated more than 140 E-Jets since launching operations in 2008 and was the launch customer for the E195-E2, receiving its first example in 2019.

The 2,000th E-Jet is also Azul’s 50th E2 aircraft, highlighting the close relationship between the Brazilian airline and Embraer.

“E-Jets family has played a fundamental role in Azul’s journey,” said John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul.

“Since our very first flight, operated on December 15, 2008, aboard an E190 aircraft registered as PR-AZL, Embraer aircraft have enabled the expansion of air connectivity across Brazil, bringing cities closer together, stimulating markets, and creating new opportunities for millions of Customers.”

Rodgerson said the delivery represented both a milestone for Embraer and the strength of the partnership between the two companies.

“Receiving the 2,000th E-Jet, which also marks our 50th E2 aircraft, is especially meaningful to us because it represents not only a major milestone for Embraer, but also the strength of a partnership that has helped transform regional aviation, enhance connectivity across Brazil, and deliver significant improvements to our customers’ onboard experience,” he added.

The E-Jets family includes the first-generation E170, E175, E190 and E195, alongside the second-generation E190-E2 and E195-E2.

The aircraft have been designed to combine passenger comfort with strong operational performance and fuel efficiency, while offering airlines the flexibility to operate routes that may not support larger narrowbody aircraft.

That flexibility has helped the E-Jets move beyond Embraer’s traditional regional aviation market and establish the manufacturer as a major player in the global small narrowbody segment.

The E2 generation has built on the success of the original aircraft with new-generation engines, updated aerodynamics and other efficiency improvements, while retaining the passenger-friendly cabin configuration that has become a defining feature of the E-Jets family.

The delivery of the 2,000th aircraft therefore represents more than a production milestone for Embraer. It also reflects the evolution of the commercial aviation market over the past 22 years, with airlines increasingly looking for aircraft capable of providing efficient capacity between regional routes and larger narrowbody operations.

With thousands of E-Jets already in service and the E2 family continuing to expand its global customer base, Embraer will be hoping the programme can build on its success as demand grows for efficient aircraft in the 70- to 150-seat market.
