Cornwall Airport Newquay (NQY/EGHQ) has announced a new partnership with Murray Travel to launch a direct-flight package holiday programme to Tenerife in March 2027, providing passengers across Cornwall and the South West with a new winter sun option from their local airport.
The programme, which officially goes on sale at the Royal Cornwall Show on 4 June 2026, will feature two direct departures to the Canary Island destination on the 5th and 12th of March 2027.
The new charter operation has been introduced in response to strong demand from passengers for additional leisure routes and package holiday options departing from Cornwall. According to the airport, feedback from customers, route requests and booking data have consistently identified the Canary Islands as one of the region’s most desired destinations.
The initiative forms part of Cornwall Airport Newquay’s wider strategy to improve regional connectivity by offering greater travel choice while reducing the need for passengers to travel to airports outside Cornwall.
The launch comes as the airport continues to experience significant growth in international traffic. International passenger numbers increased from 74,069 in 2022 to more than 203,900 in 2024. In April 2026, international travellers accounted for 66 per cent of total passenger traffic, compared with 54 per cent during the same month a year earlier.
Nigel Scott, Commercial Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay, said: “Our role is about more than operating flights; it’s about strengthening regional connectivity and ensuring people across Cornwall and the wider South West can access the destinations they want, directly from their local airport.
“By partnering with Murray Travel to offer direct flights to Tenerife, we’re making it easier for local residents to travel, reducing the need for lengthy journeys to airports outside the county and keeping more travel spend within the region. It’s another example of how we’re working with partners to expand opportunities for our passengers while supporting Cornwall’s long-term connectivity and economic resilience.”
The programme follows strong local interest in Murray Travel’s previous charter operations from Newquay, including its popular Lapland day trip offering.
Scott Murray, Director at Murray Travel, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Cornwall Airport Newquay to offer these new direct Tenerife departures in March 2027.
“The response to our Lapland day trip from Newquay has been incredible, and it has shown us just how much appetite there is locally for convenient, direct flights to exciting destinations.
“Tenerife remains one of the UK’s favourite holiday spots, so we’re really pleased to be able to offer this short trial programme and give customers in Cornwall and the surrounding area the chance to fly straight from their local airport.
“We see this as a brilliant opportunity to build on the success of Lapland, and we’re excited to explore connecting Newquay further in the future.”
Passengers will be able to choose between departures on Friday, the 5th of March and Friday, the 12th of March 2027, with holidays available exclusively through Murray Travel.
Cornwall Airport Newquay said it will continue investing in the development of its route network as it seeks to support both inbound tourism and outbound leisure travel while providing greater connectivity for communities across Cornwall and the wider South West.
