Britten-Norman launches new service to streamline fleet renewal

Loganair Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander

Britten-Norman, the UK-based aircraft manufacturer famous for the robust Islander, has introduced a new Aircraft Brokerage and Trade-In Service, offering operators a seamless, end-to-end solution for modernising their fleets.

The initiative is designed to provide full lifecycle support for owners of the iconic twin-engine aircraft, enabling them to transition effortlessly from existing planes to new, factory-built Islanders.

OEM-Managed Transition

The newly launched service puts Britten-Norman directly in charge of managing the sale, trade-in, or refurbishment of an operator’s existing aircraft. This crucial OEM involvement ensures that the entire process, from remarketing legacy planes to the delivery of new ones, is handled by the manufacturer, drawing on its deep technical expertise and access to original records.

A key benefit for operators is the guarantee of continuous operational capability. Existing aircraft can remain in service right up until the new Islander delivery is ready, a feature designed to prevent costly gaps in an operator’s schedule.

Charlotte Britton, Head of Sales at Britten-Norman, explained the rationale behind the move: “Operators want a straightforward way to refresh their fleets with minimal disruption. Our brokerage and trade-in service ensures customers can advance to the next generation of Islanders while keeping existing aircraft in service until the new ones are ready, making the process efficient and fully managed by Britten-Norman.”

Service Already Underway

The programme is already active, with Britten-Norman immediately marketing two BN2A-21 Islanders on behalf of Luxembourg-based operator CAE Aviation.

These two aircraft, which have been used by CAE for surveillance missions for over a decade, are now being offered to potential global buyers. Their configuration can be easily changed to suit 10-seat commuter or cargo operations, offering significant flexibility to the next owner.

As the company ramps up production of new Islanders on its expanded UK production line, this brokerage service is expected to be a major draw for operators worldwide who are keen to modernise their assets without the administrative burden of selling pre-owned aircraft themselves.

The Britten-Norman Sales team will support operators through complex import/export processes, connecting aircraft with buyers globally and providing a clear, managed route to fleet renewal for both new and pre-owned aircraft.
