British Airways (BA/BAW) has strengthened its presence in Canada through a new codeshare agreement with Toronto-based Porter Airlines, giving customers seamless access to 17 additional destinations across the country via Toronto and Montreal.

The partnership, announced today, allows passengers booking through British Airways to connect onto selected Porter Airlines domestic services under a BA flight code, making it easier to reach cities including Ottawa, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Victoria and St John’s as part of a single itinerary.

The agreement significantly broadens British Airways’ reach beyond its existing Canadian gateways, enabling travellers to book journeys to a wider range of destinations through ba.com in one transaction. Codeshare services are available to book immediately, with travel commencing from 8 July.

For members of The British Airways Club, the deal also brings additional loyalty benefits. Passengers travelling on eligible Porter-operated flights booked under the partnership will be able to earn both Avios and tier points, providing more opportunities to progress through the airline’s frequent flyer programme.

Porter Airlines, headquartered in Toronto, has built a reputation around its “Elevated Economy” experience, offering complimentary premium snacks, drinks served in glassware, free high-speed Wi-Fi and a two-by-two cabin layout that eliminates middle seats. The carrier serves more than 40 destinations across North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, said: “We are delighted to launch this codeshare with Porter Airlines, meaning British Airways customers can now book flights on Porter Airlines’ network with convenience and ease. This agreement makes travel between London and Canada even easier, offering more options and flexibility. We look forward to working closely with Porter Airlines and further strengthening our partnership.”

Edmond Eldebs, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Porter Airlines, added: “It is our pleasure to welcome British Airways customers to the Porter experience. This codeshare agreement reflects our shared commitment to making travel seamless and enjoyable. More travellers have the opportunity to discover more of Canada the Porter way, with elevated service and comfort that we’re known for. We look forward to a strong and growing partnership.”

The move comes as airlines continue to expand strategic partnerships to enhance connectivity without launching new routes directly. For British Airways customers, the new arrangement opens up easier access to destinations spanning Canada’s Atlantic and Pacific coasts while simplifying booking and connections through the carrier’s existing London-Toronto and London-Montreal services.
