Bombardier has marked a major milestone with the delivery of the first Global 8000 business jet to NetJets, the programme’s fleet launch customer and one of the world’s leading private aviation operators.
The aircraft was formally handed over at Bombardier’s Laurent Beaudoin Completion Centre in Montréal on 26 March, in front of hundreds of employees, senior NetJets representatives and invited guests, signalling the entry into service of what is being billed as the most advanced business jet in the skies.
NetJets is set to take a total of 24 Global 8000 aircraft, with the inaugural delivery representing the first step in a significant fleet expansion. The operator also plans to work closely with Bombardier to upgrade its existing fleet of Global 7500 aircraft to the new Global 8000 standard, with further growth possible through additional options in the years ahead.
The Global 8000 is positioned at the very top of the business aviation market, offering a range of 8,000 nautical miles (around 16 hours 45 minutes) and a maximum speed of Mach 0.95, making it the fastest civil aircraft since the Concorde. These performance figures allow operators to connect more city pairs non-stop, while reducing journey times for passengers.
Éric Martel, President and Chief Executive of Bombardier, described the delivery as a defining moment for both companies. He said the aircraft “redefines the business aviation landscape” through its combination of speed, range and comfort, adding that NetJets customers will now be able to experience its “revolutionary performance attributes and unmatched luxury”.
Patrick Gallagher, President of NetJets Aviation, highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two firms, stating that the Global 8000 represents the “ultimate expression” of their shared commitment to innovation, safety and service. He added that the aircraft’s capabilities will enable NetJets customers to travel further and more efficiently than ever before.
Beyond its headline performance, the Global 8000 introduces a number of technical and operational advantages. Its advanced wing design, incorporating leading-edge slats, allows access to a wider range of airports, with up to 30% more destinations within reach compared to its nearest competitors. Despite its size and range, the aircraft retains take-off and landing performance comparable to much smaller jets.
Inside the cabin, Bombardier has focused heavily on passenger wellbeing and comfort. The four-zone layout offers the longest seated cabin length in its class, complemented by features such as the Pũr Air system and Soleil circadian lighting. The aircraft also boasts the lowest cabin altitude in business aviation, at just 2,691 feet, helping to reduce fatigue and the effects of jet lag.
With this first delivery now complete, the Global 8000 programme moves from development into operational service, marking a significant step forward for long-range business aviation and reinforcing Bombardier’s position at the premium end of the market.
