British Airways (BA/BAW) lined up all four of its specially painted retro jets at London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL) yesterday to celebrate a milestone for the heritage fleet.

The occasion marked the 50,000th customer to fly on one of the four heritage aircraft which were introduced into the fleet over the course of February and March.

Boeing 747’s G-BYGC (BOAC), G-BNLY (LANDOR) and G-CIVB (NEGUS) lined up alongside the BEA liveried Airbus A319 G-EUPJ to be photographed with a current, Chatham Dockyard liveried Airbus A319 at the one-time event at London Heathrow.

The line up was made possible with very carefully maintenance scheduling and some delicate aircraft arranging.

Alex Cruz, British Airways’ Chairman and CEO, said: “The excitement and pride that we’ve witnessed from customers and colleagues as these heritage liveries, which we painted to mark our centenary, have flown around the globe has been unparalleled.

“Social media has been fired up with images from travellers all over the world when they’ve spotted the aircraft and as some 50,000 people have now flown on them since they arrived back in the fleet we wanted to capture a special photo to share with them.”
