Air China Cargo, has become the latest customer for the much-anticipated Airbus A350 freighter, the A350F.

The cargo specialist, which is a subsidiuary of Chinese flag carrier, Air China, has signed a purchase agreeement for six A350F’s taking the total known commitments for the ‘yet to be certified’ freighter to 80.

Wang Hongyan, Vice President of Air China Cargo commented: “The introduction of the A350F to our existing mixed cargo fleet contributes to efficiency in operation and maintenance. The A350F will enhance Air China Cargo’s capability to withstand risks in its long-term stable operation”.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business added: “We are delighted to welcome Air China Cargo as the latest customer for the A350F. The A350F will bring new generation efficiency and performance as well as new levels of capacity and unprecedented loading flexibility. We look forward to ensuring a seamless integration into Air China Cargo’s operation”.

The Airbus A350F, whose wings are made in Broughton – North Wales, is the most advanced dedicated frieghter in the world offering airlines a payload of up to 111 tonnes and tyhe ability to carry freight up to 8,700 nautical miles. It also features the industries largest main cargo deck loading door.

With the ability to run on a 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend from launch the A350F it will fully meet ICAO’s 2027 CO2 targets. Airbus plans to be able to use 100% SAF by 2030.

Assembly of test aircraft is underway at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse and certification and entry into service is expected to be in 2027 although this is a slightly delayed date due to supply chain issues.
