Air Astana finalises A320neo order

Air Astana has finalised an order for 25 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, marking the largest direct aircraft purchase in the airline group’s history and reinforcing long-standing ties with Airbus.

The agreement covers five A320neo and 20 A321neo aircraft and forms part of the airline’s wider fleet expansion and modernisation strategy. The aircraft will be deployed across both Air Astana and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan as the group looks to grow its network across Central Asia, Europe and beyond.

Crucially for the UK aerospace sector, the wings for all Airbus A320 Family aircraft are designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, with assembly taking place at Airbus’ major facility in Broughton, North Wales. The site plays a central role in Airbus’ global production system and supports thousands of highly skilled jobs.

The order represents a significant boost for the UK supply chain, underlining the continued global importance of British aerospace manufacturing—particularly in Wales, where Airbus produces wings for the majority of its commercial aircraft programmes.

Air Astana’s President and CEO, Peter Foster, said the A320neo Family has been instrumental to the airline’s success, highlighting the A321neo variant for its ability to deliver long-haul narrowbody operations with enhanced passenger comfort.

Airbus also welcomed the deal, noting that the A320neo Family continues to offer strong economics, improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, making it one of the most in-demand single-aisle aircraft programmes globally.

The aircraft are expected to support Air Astana’s long-term growth ambitions, with the majority likely to be larger A321neo variants, enabling extended range operations on key international routes.

For the UK, the deal serves as a reminder that every A320neo Family aircraft delivered worldwide carries a major piece of British engineering—its wings—manufactured in Wales and exported to final assembly lines across Europe.
