Wing transport capacity at Airbus’ wing manufacturing site at Broughton, North Wales; has been doubled following the opening of a new central hub for Oversized Beluga Transport Jigs.

The facility is the first of its kind in the Airbus network and is the result of a €7.8m investment in the Broughton site.

Airbus now has space to manage the wing jigs, that are used to secure wings for transport, at the purpose-built facility redefining Airbus’ approach to wing logistics. The enhanced capacity enables the OEM to double the number of A320 wing sets that are delivered on each Beluga flight.

Gareth Davies, Airbus Head of Broughton, said: “The new Oversize Transport Hub will make a real difference to how every wing we build is transported. It will help us work more smoothly and safely and gives us exactly what we need to keep pace with future production increases. It’s a great step forward for the site and everyone who works here.”

Airbus Broughton employs around 5000 people and builds and transports A320, A330 and A350 wings to its facilities around Europe with the Beluga and Beluga XL oversized transport aircraft.
