UPDATE: Glasgow and Cardiff gain transatlantic flights as WestJet confirms new routes to Toronto

Canadian airline WestJet is set to announce a raft of new destinations from Toronto, Canada, including two new UK routes to Cardiff Airport (CWL/EGFF) and Glasgow (GLA/EGPF) for Summer 2026.

Details of the new routes and frequencies are set to be announced at an event in Toronto tomorrow, where WestJet Chief Executive Officer Alexis von Hoensbroech will announce details of new flights from Toronto and Halifax.

The news will be a welcome boost to Cardiff Airport, which has been struggling to build passenger numbers and attract airlines since it was taken into public ownership by the Welsh Labour government.

The UK routes are expected to be operated by Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, providing a single-aisle transatlantic service.

Full details of the new routes will be available tomorrow once formally announced.
