Airports around the UK are braced for the August Bank Holiday weekend getaway, with Friday, the 22nd of August, expected to be the busiest day.
According to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, 12,474 flights are due to depart the UK over the course of the weekend, which is equal to around 2 million seats, with Friday alone seeing 3,256 departures from UK airports.
2,679 of those flights will be from just one airport, London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL), with London Gatwick (LGW/EGKK), Manchester (MAN/EGCC) and London Stansted (STN/EGSS) following behind.
Compared to the August Bank Holiday weekend last year, the number of flights is up 1% from 12,306 flights, and the number of flights is also higher than the previous busiest weekend this year, the May Bank Holiday weekend, which saw 11,747 flights.
