Thomas Cook to launch Palma based Spanish airline

Thomas Cook has announced that it plans to launch a Palma based Spanish airline.

Called Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics, the new airline will operate from the bucket and spade carriers most popular destination of Palma De Mallorca (PMI/LEPA). It will initially operate using 3 Airbus A320 aircraft that previously operated for Thomas Cook Belgium.

Thomas Cook currently operates in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia but says the new airline will give it greater operational flexibility.

Initially, the Spanish airline will take over short and medium-haul flights for Thomas Cook’s German airline Condor and replace it’s third party aircraft leases.

Chief airline officer at Thomas Cook, Christoph Debus, said: “The new airline and base will provide us with the right platform to better manage the seasonal demand in our business, giving us more control at lower cost as we continue to expand the choice of destinations we offer our customers.

With more than one million Thomas Cook customers flying into Palma every year, we have a strong existing infrastructure on which to build.”
