Ryanair ordered to compensate pilots at closed dutch base

Irish budget airline Ryanair (FR/RYR) has been ordered to pay 8 Dutch pilots between 380,000 – 480,000 euros following a ruling by the court of the Den Bosch district.

The decision comes after the court ruled that there was no likelihood of “purposeful continuation” of employment for the pilots after Ryanair’s controversial decision to close its Eindhoven base.

Ryanair closed the Eindhoven base last year following a series of strikes by crews based there, the court at Den Bosch said there was no business case for closing the base and as such it had “all the appearance of a sanction” in retaliation for the industrial action.

It is understood that Ryanair intends to appeal the decision.
