Pakistan International Airlines (PK/PIA), which is currently banned from flying in Europe, is targeting a return using chartered aircraft according to sources.

The airline is apparently planning to wet-lease several aircraft with European Air Operators Certificates (AOC) including an A330-900neo from Hi-Fly destined for UK routes.

A formal announcement is expected on UK flights on or shortly after the 4th August.

PIA was forced to end flights to the UK after Pakistan’s Aviation Minister, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, revealed that almost a third of all pilots in the country have fake licences and are not qualified to fly.

PIA itself suspended 150 of its pilots.

Prior to the ban, the airline operated to London Heathrow, Birmingham and Manchester.
