Leading regional airline Loganair (LM/LOG) has launched the Airliner Returners Scheme aimed at getting experienced pilots back in the skies after career breaks
Many pilots can take breaks during their career to raise children, undertake caring duties or for other personal reasons, but getting back to flying after can be challenging and costly.
Loganair’s scheme aims to support pilots’ return to flying by providing them with refresher training, including simulator sessions, structured reintroduction to an airline, and dedicated mentoring, as well as covering expenses such as travel and accommodation.
The 4-month programme is open to pilots who hold, or have previously held, a full UK CAA Licence, and they have pilot roles available across their bases from Aberdeen to Southampton.
Ronan Milne, director of flight operations at Loganair, said: “We understand that life circumstances change, and stepping away from flying doesn’t diminish professional ability or dedication.
“Our Airline Returners Scheme reflects that understanding, and by offering personalised training, financial support, and advanced rota planning, we aim to remove the barriers that often prevent pilots from returning. We want to help people reconnect with their passion for flying in a way that respects their lives and experiences.”
The new scheme is in addition to its direct entry captain scheme, which allows experienced captains to step directly into a command role with Loganair.
Loganair employs around 250 pilots across its extensive UK network, which includes the highlands and islands of Scotland and the world’s only commercial beach landing at Barra.
