Southampton base launch

UK regional airline Loganair (LM/LOG) has begun operations from its new base at Southampton Airport (SOU/EGHI) boosting the reliability of its network from the South Coast of the UK.

Over the next few months, Loganair will scale up operations at Southampton with plans to be fully operational with a two aircraft base by March 2026.

The airline says that Southampton’s strategic location makes it an ideal gateway for Southern mainland & island communities and by basing crews and aircraft locally it can respond more effectively to disruption ensuring a reliable operation.

Ronnie Matheson, chief commercial officer at Loganair, said: “The start of operations at our Southampton base represents an important step in strengthening the resilience of our network and ensuring consistent, reliable air links for the South Coast.

“For more than 60 years, Loganair has focused on serving regions and communities that depend on strong domestic connectivity. Establishing a permanent base in Southampton allows us to better support an area of the country that is often overlooked, while providing our customers with dependable services and improved operational stability.

“As we scale up operations through to March, Southampton will play an increasingly important role in our UK network, supporting both regional travel and vital onward connections.”

The new Southampton base forms part of the airlines strategy of delivering sustainable regional air services while balancing economic growth, community access and long-term network reliability.

Chris Tibbett, Aviation Director at AGS Airports, added: “This is a fantastic milestone for Southampton Airport and a clear demonstration of Loganair’s commitment to strengthening regional connectivity. Establishing a permanent base here not only enhances travel options for our passengers but also delivers tangible benefits for the local economy through job creation and increased business opportunities.

“Southampton’s position as a key gateway for the South Coast makes this investment particularly significant. The addition of routes such as Manchester, which started in October, reconnected vital economic corridors and, through Loganair’s extensive interline partnerships, provides even greater global connectivity for our customers.”

Loganair’s other UK bases include Kirkwall, Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, City of Derry, Jersey and the Isle of Man.
