How to Make a Short Ski Weekend Feel Like a Real Holiday

Guests unwind at a cozy outdoor bar in a ski resort, savoring colorful cocktails while snow gently falls around them, creating a festive winter atmosphere.

If you’d like to go away skiing, but you can only find a few days in which to do it, then you might understandably worry about how much time you’re actually going to get on the slopes. A poorly-planned trip, after all, might involve a lot of hassle at the beginning and end – and when you only have a few days to enjoy yourself, this can eat into your actual skiing time.

So, how can this problem be dealt with?

Pick a Resort That Works for a Quick Trip

Some resorts tend to be better suited to short trips than others. These tend to be the more accessible ones, just a short drive away from the nearest airport, and the ones whose lifts are open just that little bit later.

Sort Transport and Transfers Early

The earlier you get your transport sorted, the less money you’ll tend to spend, and the smoother your trip will ultimately be. If you do run into difficulty, then you’ll know about it early on, and you’ll be able to make alternative arrangements. You can fly out to the continent, or take a train all the way – but driving tends to be impractical when the trip is short.

Pack Smart for Two Days on the Slopes

When you’re only going to be in the resort for a couple of days, you can afford to travel light. Make sure that you have thermal base layers, a jacket, salopetts, and a mid-layer. Don’t be tempted to pack more than you need, and consider renting gear in the resort to save on packing space. In many cases, you’ll be able to get by with just hand luggage. Just bear in mind that this might mean you end up wearing several layers on the plane.

Make Every Hour Count

When you only have two days, you’ll want to minimise hassle. You can do this by booking your lift passes in advance, and coming up with plans for both evenings. Curated ski weekends are often a great option – when everything has been arranged on your behalf, you’re sure to spend a lot less time stressing.

Safety and Insurance Basics

Just because you’re only going to be skiing for a short time doesn’t mean that you won’t be at risk of injury. Make sure that you wear a helmet at all times, and that you stick to the piste unless you know exactly what you’re doing. Ensure also that your travel insurance will cover you against skiing-related injury and illness. Ideally, you won’t need to worry about this – but if you do end up suffering an injury, then it’s essential that you know you can be treated.
