Gulf Air has confirmed a major fleet expansion after finalising a firm order for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with options for a further three aircraft. The deal, announced at the Dubai Airshow, reinforces the Bahrain-based carrier’s long-term strategy to grow its international network and enhance its long-haul operations.

The order adds three additional 787s to Gulf Air’s commitment made in July, bringing its total order book for the type to 17 aircraft. The agreement was signed by Gulf Air chief executive Martin Gauss and Boeing senior vice-president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen.

Khalid Husain Taqi, chairman of Gulf Air Group, said: “Today’s signing marks a significant advancement in Gulf Air’s long-term fleet development efforts. By confirming our acquisition of the Boeing 787 Dreamliners, we are accelerating our strategy to increase capacity, strengthen long-haul operations, and deliver an elevated, more sustainable travel experience to our passengers. This agreement also builds on the long-established relationship between Gulf Air and Boeing, a partnership that has supported our growth for decades.”

The Boeing 787, known for its fuel efficiency, long range and improved passenger comfort, already plays a key role in the airline’s network. Gulf Air currently operates 10 Dreamliners, connecting Bahrain to more than 50 destinations across Asia, Europe and the United States. The expanded fleet is expected to support new route opportunities while enhancing services on existing long-haul markets.

Stephanie Pope, president and chief executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, welcomed the renewed commitment: “Gulf Air is taking exciting steps to expand its global footprint and we are honoured the airline has confirmed the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as the cornerstone of its fleet today and in the decades ahead. The 787’s superior efficiency and passenger comfort fit perfectly with Gulf Air’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.”

As Gulf Air’s flagship aircraft, the 787 offers features such as extra-large windows, improved cabin humidity, lower cabin altitude, and advanced turbulence-reducing technology, all contributing to a smoother, more comfortable passenger experience.
