Fire engulfs Hangar 3 at Old Sarum

A large fire has broken out at the Grade II-listed Hangar 3 at Old Sarum Airfield in Wiltshire with Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service warning residents to keep windows closed and stay indoors.

According to the fire service, the blaze broke out just before 7pm this evening with smoke seen billowing from the hangar.

A video posted by Save Old Sarum on X showed the extent of the fire.

Only a few weeks ago developers had planning permission approved to build 315 homes on the site of the airfield but Hangar 3 was due to remain and the owners of the airfield were told to make repairs to the hangar as part of the planning approval.

The blaze has also engulfed the Hangar 3 Restaurant & Cafe.
