British Airways has chosen a pioneering, cloud-based platform developed by UK aviation software specialist, MRO-PRO, to digitise and manage the line maintenance for its global network of third-party customers. The move marks a significant milestone in the airline’s operational digital transformation and the broader MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) industry’s journey towards greater efficiency.

The MRO-PRO platform is set to be deployed across British Airways’ entire line maintenance network dedicated to servicing customer aircraft. The system promises to deliver real-time visibility and faster decision-making by equipping engineers with mobile tablets at the aircraft to capture and instantly report live technical data to both British Airways and its clients.

A core innovation is MRO-PRO’s groundbreaking resource planning module. This module is designed to transform the scheduling and management of line maintenance by providing the airline with hour-by-hour forecasting. It intelligently overlays inbound flight data with engineer availability and authorisations, enabling proactive planning and swift allocation decisions. Crucially, its integration with MRO-PRO’s live flight radar tool ensures that the right engineers are precisely aligned with aircraft schedules, ensuring they are in the right place at the right time.

Streamlining Operations and Billing

Beyond digital task management, MRO-PRO will support the co-ordination of essential logistics, including spares and tooling, helping to streamline maintenance operations and boost efficiency across the board.

Furthermore, the platform will handle third-party maintenance invoicing for British Airways, promising to simplify the billing process, improve itemisation accuracy, and significantly reduce manual administrative effort.

Full implementation is expected to be completed by the end of January 2026, with MRO-PRO assisting the roll-out across more than 30 international stations. This includes major hubs such as London Gatwick, Manchester, New York, Miami, Boston, Chicago, Barcelona, Madrid, Sydney, and Delhi.

A “Significant Milestone” for MRO-PRO

Scott Wells, founder and managing director of MRO-PRO, hailed the partnership as a major step for the company.

“MRO-PRO is proud to announce that British Airways, one of the world’s most recognised and prestigious airlines, has chosen our platform to manage the MRO requirements for all its customer line maintenance network,” Mr Wells commented. “This new partnership represents a significant milestone for MRO-PRO in our growth ambition to deliver digital and AI-enhanced solutions to leading airlines and maintenance providers across the world.”

He added that by combining advanced data tools with real-time insight, MRO-PRO is “setting a new standard in digital MRO management.”

BA Reports Immediate Benefits

Gavin Shearer, Head of Operations – Line Maintenance, British Airways, provided an early endorsement, noting the immediate positive impact on the customer line maintenance operation.

“Since implementing MRO-PRO’s platform, we have been able to deliver several benefits,” Mr Shearer confirmed. “The system has enabled simplified aircraft workflows with enhanced performance visibility for managers, through improved data insights, and delivered smarter work allocation using flight radar feeds to track any aircraft delays and reprioritise tasks.”

He also highlighted the positive feedback from staff: “Overall, we’ve achieved 100% engineer adoption of the system, following a smooth onboarding process and thorough training supported by MRO-PRO.”

The partnership signals a strong commitment from British Airways to leverage cutting-edge British software to maintain its high standards of operational excellence and drive new efficiencies in its global third-party maintenance business.
