British Airways launches new St. Louis and Guernsey routes from London

British Airways (BA/BAW) has expanded its network with the launch of two new routes, as inaugural flights to St. Louis and Guernsey departed from London yesterday.

The new service to St. Louis marks the airline’s 27th destination in the United States, further strengthening its transatlantic offering. The inaugural flight to the Midwestern city – often dubbed the ‘Gateway to the West’ – was given a light-hearted twist, operated by a full crew sharing variations of the name Louis.

British Airways is now the only UK airline offering direct flights to St. Louis. The launch aligns with several major milestones in the US, including the 100th anniversary of Route 66, which passes through the city, as well as nationwide celebrations marking 250 years of American independence. The route also offers convenient access for football fans travelling to nearby Kansas City, one of the host cities for upcoming international fixtures this summer.

Operating four times per week from London Heathrow Terminal 5, the seasonal service is flown by the Boeing 787. Passengers can choose between World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and Club World (business class). The airline is also in the process of equipping its 787 fleet with high-speed onboard connectivity via Starlink.

Meanwhile, Guernsey has joined the airline’s route map with a new daily, year-round service, becoming the only direct connection between the island and London Heathrow. The inaugural flight carried special significance, with the Captain and several members of the cabin crew having personal ties to the island.

Passengers on the first service were treated to a traditional Guernsey Gâche Mèlèe, a locally inspired apple dessert reflecting the island’s heritage.

Neil Chernoff, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways, said the launch of new routes remains a key milestone for the airline. He noted that both destinations offer travellers greater choice, whether flying long-haul to the United States or opting for a short-haul getaway closer to home.

Looking ahead, British Airways is set to further expand its summer network with the introduction of flights to Tivat. The seasonal service to the coastal town on the Bay of Kotor will begin on 14 May 2026, operating three times per week from London Heathrow Terminal 3.
