Seattle-based OEM Boeing has won an order for 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft from Central Asian carrier Uzbekistan Airways in what is the airlines biggest-ever order.
The order is made up of a firm order for 14 Boeing 787-9s with options for a further eight as part of its fleet modernisation programme.
Uzbekistan’s flag carrier already operates a fleet of seven Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners which forms the cornerstone of its long-haul fleet alongside its Boeing 767s.
Uzbekistan Airways Chairman Shukhrat Khudaikulov said: “With this new contract, we are further strengthening both our airline’s and our nation’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia, while providing our passengers with greater global connectivity. This step reaffirms our ambitions and strategic commitment to sustainable growth.”
The carrier was the first Central Asian airline to operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner which it utilises on routes to Europe, Asia and the US with its direct flight to New York from Tashkent.

The 787 Dreamliner family, renowned for its fuel efficiency, versatility and passenger comfort, allows airlines such as Uzbekistan Airways to open new routes and serve additional destinations. Thanks to its advanced aerodynamics, composite materials and innovative systems, the 787 consumes 25% less fuel than the aircraft it replaces.
