Channel Islands-based regional carrier Blue Islands (SI/BGI) has collapsed into administration making it the second UK regional airline to fail this month following the collapse of Eastern Airways.
Blue Islands operated scheduled and charter flights form the Channel Islands to mainland Britain, often for other operators using a fleet of five ATRs. It launched in 1999 as Le Coq Airlink, originally set up to transport food from Bournemouth to Alderney using BN Islander aircraft.
It added a passenger service to that route in 2002 and later changed its operating name to Rockhopper. The change to Blue Islands came about in 2006 which coincided with a new fleet of Jetstream 31 turboprops.
2010 saw it add its first ATR to the fleet as it began to operate more scheduled services to mainland UK and in 2016, it operated under the FlyBe brand until Flybe collapsed in 2020. Following that collapsed the airline relaunched under its own name again and took on several former FlyBe routes.
During the last few years Blue Islands set up several routes including to the European cities of Dublin and Rennes as well as other UK cities, Although not all were succesful with the Birmingham route being cancelled in 2024 with the airline blaming competition from easyJet.
In a statement on their website, the carrier said: “We regret to inform you that Blue Islands has suspended trading effective on 14 November 2025. All future flights operated by Blue Islands have been cancelled. Please do not travel to the airport unless you have made alternative travel arrangements. “
With the sudden collapse affecting many passengers, Aurigny Air Services has stepped in to operate some flights between Southampton and Guernsey and also between Guernsey and Jersey.
Away from the flights, Blue Islands was supplying the ATR72 that Skybus were going to use after taking over the Cornwall Airport Newquay to London Gatwick PSO route from the 23rd November. It is unclear if this will be affected.
