Aerobility, a Leading UK aviation charity which specialises in access to aviation for those with disabilities, has appointed Neil Tucker as its new Chair of the Trustee board.
Neil takes over from outgoing Chair Shona Bowman who has been in the role for the last 14 years, and with the charity since 2005.
His association with Aerobility began in September 2018, following a life-changing motorcycle accident that left him having lost a leg and the use of his left arm. What followed has become a powerful example of the charity’s ethos and impact.
After joining Aerobility’s flight training programme, Neil progressed from flying light PA28 aircraft to taking the controls of former military jets, underlining how determination and ambition can overcome perceived limitations. In recognition of his commitment and experience, he was appointed a Trustee of Aerobility in 2019 and has since played a significant role in helping to shape the charity’s strategic direction, expanding opportunities for its participants and pilots alike.
Speaking about the appointment, CEO Mike Miller-Smith said: “Both myself personally, and the wider charity, are incredibly grateful to Shona for her many years of support, dedication and leadership,” adding “Equally I very much welcome the opportunity to work with Neil and continue to develop the great work of the charity.”
“I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks for the incredible support over the years in this highly satisfying role,” commented Shona. “Aerobility has been a huge part of my life, and I’m immensely proud to have witnessed the charity grow and evolve into such a respected and inspiring organisation. It has been an honour and a privilege to be part of this remarkable journey, it certainly feels like I am stepping aside on a real high.”
