Strikes that were due to impact many of Airbus’ UK sites, including the wing production facility at Broughton, have been called off after members of the Unite union voted to accept a new pay offer.

Unite says the the new pay offer will see employees get a 3.6 per cent pay increase as well as a £500 one-off payment as well as significant increases and improvements to the pension schemes that sees an uplift in employer contributions.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “I’m pleased that our members stood together and by doing so they have achieved this improved deal that sees increases to their pay and pensions. It is nothing less than their skill and determination deserves.”

Unite national officer for aerospace Rhys McCarthy added: “We welcome the outcome of the ballot and are pleased that industrial action will now be avoided. This agreement reflects the hard work and commitment of our members while supporting the company’s long-term stability”

The deal came after both parties returned to the negotiating table following announcement of the industrial action which would have affected Airbus’ sites including Broughton, North Wales and Filton, Bristol.
