AAIB sends team to fatal St Albans light aircraft crash

The Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) has confirmed it has sent a team to a fatal light aircraft crash near St Albans in Hertfordshire.

According to Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue, Emergency services were called to reports of a light aircraft that crashed into a field shortly after taking off.

Two fire engines and an air ambulance were sent to the scene which is near Plaistows Farm Airfield, Chiswell Green.

It is understood that the pilot, a man in his 50s, was the only person on board the aircraft.

Hertfordshire police say the first report came in at 12:33hrs.
